Are your kids inspired by space? And are they ready to get creative? We want to see their very own interpretation of the moon landings in 1969!

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings on 20th July 1969, we’ve buddied up with Learning Resources, who specialise in creating toys to help children learn as they play. We’re offering an amazing bundle of space-related toys and Lonely Planet Kids books to the winner of our creative competition, so read on to find out how your child can enter!

The winning entry and runners-up will also have their work published on the Lonely Planet Kids blog.

The task

Get creative with a blank piece of paper to design your very own space scene. It can be as colourful and as crazy as you like, involve astronauts or asteroids, rockets or rovers. And if you’d rather use words and create a story rather than a picture, that’s fine too!

How to enter

Please ensure a parent or guardian emails the entry to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., including the following information:

– Entrant’s name and age
– If it’s a drawing, we need a a scan of it. Please make sure it’s high resolution and there are no more than three per entry. Please also include what is in the drawing.
– If it’s a story please keep it to 200 words and make sure we can read every one of them!

Entries must be received by 11.59pm (BST) on Friday 6th September 2019. The competition is open to entrants aged under 16.

With all entries, please include confirmation that you are happy for us to share it on our Lonely Planet Kids blog and excerpts on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Without this confirmation your entry is not valid. Please note that we are not able to confirm receipt of your entry and we are unable to accept entries which do not meet the word count or submission requirements.

The prize

As well as having their work published on our Lonely Planet Kids blog, the winner will receive an amazing bundle from Learning Resources including Super Suction Space Saucers, Gears Gears Gears!® Space Explorers Building Set, an Inflatable Solar System and much more plus The Big Earth Book, Daredevil’s Guide to Outer Space and How To Be A Space Explorer from Lonely Planet Kids.

Three runners-up will receive a copy of Lonely Planet Kids Daredevil’s Guide to Outer Space plus GeoSafari® Glow-in-the-Dark Planets & Stars Set & Beaker Creatures® Reactor Pods (Set of 2) from Learning Resources and will also have their work published on our blog.

Lonely Planet may choose to publish other notable entries.
